Why Moriguchi built Memori
Medical AI depends on data, yet medical data is scarce by nature — and it is biased: the rarer a case, the more likely it is to be reported. Making AI safe to deploy with little data matters, but it doesn't solve the underlying problem. What's missing is the ordinary, everyday record kept outside the hospital. So Memori asks families to take part in research. Only records from families who consent are used — never the photos or videos in their album. Identifying details are removed before the data is used, and families can stop contributing at any time.
Records don't only matter for research. Having a family's own records in the exam room changes a visit. How a fever progressed, what a rash looked like, what a diaper looked like — the photos people hesitate to keep in their camera roll are exactly what a diagnosis needs. Memori is a place for families to keep those everyday records, with the aim of raising the accuracy and value of primary care.
That is why privacy in parenting matters so much. A child's photos must never be lost, and a family-only album should never make anyone worry about who might see it. You should be able to capture anything without a second thought. That is the thinking behind Memori.
